10-30-19 fdl school budget

The Fond du Lac School Board has approved a  2020 school district budget.  Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says the district is benefiting from the state budget with low revenue relief and  additional state aid.   Sebert says the budget includes borrowing for the school building referendum debt and a 2.44 percent salary increase for staff.   He says the  budget does not include a significant increase in the mill rate.  “The referendum questions are actually going to come out to 27.7 cents.  So that’s lower, which we’re grateful for,”  Sebert told WFDL news.  “That’s due to some excellent interest rates that are going to help us keep that levy a little bit lower.”  Sebert says the expanded school voucher program has an impact on the budget.   The voucher along with the special needs scholarships continues to increase.  Last year that was about ten cents on the mill rate that we had to pass along to the taxpayer.  This year its about 15. (cents) Those numbers continue to increase in the Fond du Lac area.” Sebert said.
