7-11-14 eden man turns himself in

Colton J Obrien
An Eden man accused of trying to take a deputy’s gun following a short foot chase is in custody.  Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says 22 year  old Colton Obrien of Eden turned himself in Thursday afternoon.  Olig says the incident occurred early last Saturday morning when a deputy responding to a noise complaint on Elmore Drive in the town of Ashford approached three males who tried to run away.  Olig says the deputy caught up to Obrien when Obrien fell.  “The male subject struck the deputy multiple times in his face, chest and arms, and attempted to remove the deputy’s firearm from his holster, actually had his hand completely on the holster,”  Olig told WFDL news.   Olig says when a 19 year old man pointed the deputy’s Taser at the deputy, the deputy de-escalated the incident and the suspects fled.   Olig says the 19 year old was arrested Wednesday.  Olig says Obrien turned himself in at the Sheriff’s Office Thursday afternoon.   “This is a serious incident.  He (Obrien)  is lucky the deputy did not shoot him and the other gentleman,”  Olig said. “Pointing a Taser at a deputy rises to a whole different level where he (deputy) could be totally incapacitated, and the fact they were trying to take his gun.  That’s very serious and very dangerous.”
