8-12-14 mayville police contract

It’s taken almost four years of negotiations, but the City of Mayville has approved the 2011- 2013 contract with its police union.  The Common Council approved the contract at their meeting Monday night.  The agreement contains pay raises as well as new pension contributions, and it also contains a new elongated pay scale.  The total for the employees for 3 years is a 5 ½ percent pay raise and a 2 ½ percent contribution into the pension fund.  Mayville Police Union President, Detective Tug Hockers says the union is pleased that an agreement was reached.  Mayor Bob Redeker says he hopes the agreement shows that the City and the Union can better cooperate with each other.    In other news, the Common Council approved allowing the police department to re-establish its K-9 program and raise the nearly 30 thousand dollars to purchase the dog and the necessary vehicle and equipment.  Mayville has been without a K-9 unit since 2010 when dog Frankie died from cancer.
