HAYWARD, Wis. (AP) — Many hunters will be able to use a crossbow for the first time in Wisconsin. The Natural Resources Board on Wednesday approved a crossbow hunting season to run concurrent with the archery season, which runs from mid-September until the end of November or beginning of December, depending on the year. Hunters of all legal ages and physical abilities can use crossbows to hunt deer and other smaller animals including rabbits and coyotes. Previously, only those hunters with disabilities and those over 65 could hunt with a crossbow. Creating the new crossbow season ran into some opposition from traditional bow-and-arrow hunters who worried that allowing a crossbow would taint archery hunting. Hunters will be required to get a crossbow hunting license, which includes a statewide buck tag and a Farmland Zone antlerless tag.
