APPLETON, Wis. (AP) — Lawrence University in Appleton says it’s received an anonymous $25 million donation to support scholarships — the largest gift in the school’s history. Lawrence leaders said Wednesday it’s a dollar-for-dollar matching gift that will make $50 million in new money available for scholarships. The university says 96 percent of Lawrence students are receiving need or merit-based financial aid this school year. Lawrence President Mark Burstein says a gift this size will truly change lives. Burstein says its magnitude is immeasurable and will impact generations of students from across the country and the world. Lawrence provided about $33 million in institutional financial aid this academic year. The university’s previous largest gift was $16 million in 2006 for the Warch Campus Center.
