9-19-14 green bay-bear

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP) — Crews have safely removed a black bear seen roaming a Green Bay neighborhood.  Police say the bear was spotted around 6 a.m. Thursday.  Jeff Pritzl, district wildlife supervisor for the Department of Natural Resources, says the bear was “just following his nose” but was getting too close to some restaurants.  Police corralled the bear into a backyard area. People were told to stay inside. School resource officers walked children who lived in the immediate area to school.  The DNR Bear Unit tried to tranquilize the bear. After four rounds with the tranquilizer dart, the bear was finally out.   It took more than a half-dozen people to lift the 200-pound animal. The bear, estimated to be 2 years old, was to be taken to the northern woods.
