This year’s annual “Light Up the Night Against Domestic Violence” program has been scheduled at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, October 8 at the Goodrich Little Theatre.   Light Up the Night is held as part of National Domestic Violence Awareness Month, which is October.   Tiffany Wiese, Agnesian HealthCare Domestic Violence Program coordinator, and Maggie McCullough, Solutions Center Shelter & Support Services executive director, will lead a brief program. The evening will include the presentation of the “Those Who Care About Domestic Violence Award” to Mary Steberg, of the Exchange Club of Fond du Lac.  After the program, there will an empowerment walk (weather permitting). Walkers will be led by designated staff and the Barton family to Veterans Park.  The walk will be followed by a flash mob dance at the park. Those who plan to participate in the dance mob should view this dance tutorial on YouTube – “Light Up the Night 2014 Dance Tutorial” before the event. There will also be committee members at the event who will be leading the dance for participants to follow along.  The program and walk are free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.   “Light Up the Night brings awareness to the typically hidden issue of domestic violence,” says Wiese. “Fond du Lac’s Light Up the Night event provides awarenessevery year dedicated to domestic violence. There are those who live within our own community here in Fond du Lac who may experience physical abuse, sexual abuse or emotional abuse on a regular basis. In fact, one out of three women, and one out of seven men, has been abused sometime in their lifetime.”  Event sponsors include: Agnesian HealthCare Domestic Violence Program, Fond du Lac Coordinated Community Response Against Violence (CCR), Fond du Lac Department of Corrections, and Solutions Center Shelter & Support Services.  The night is being supported by the Light Up the Night Committee, ARC Community Services, Radio Station Sunny 97, The Barton Family, Kim Braatz and Soroptimist International Fond du Lac.  For more information, call 926-4207 or 923-1743.
