An aquatic Invasive species educator says it’s the first time freshwater jellyfish have been found in a Waupaca County lake. Paul Skawinski says a fisherman reported the jellyfish on Spencer Lake last week. Skawinski says these strange creatures originate from China and were first observed in Wisconsin in the late 1960s. Skawinski says impacts of the freshwater jellyfish on Wisconsin’s ecosystems Are not well known. The jellyfish do containing stinging cells in their tentacles, but unlike their saltwater cousins are harmless to humans.
