10-18-14 gottfried prairie halloween walk

Want to see the Gottfried Prairie and some nocturnal animal friends at night? The Gottfried Prairie & Arboretum is hosting a free Halloween Prairie Walk on October 28th from 6-8 PM, at UW-Fond du Lac, 400 University Drive, Fond du Lac.  Rain date is planned for October 29th, same time.  No pre-registration is necessary.  Tours will leave the prairie shelter every 20 minutes. All ages are welcomed, but the event is best suited for children 5 and older.  This will be a flashlight lead tour with learning opportunities throughout the walk. Dress according to the weather. Treats and hot cider after the tour! The Halloween Prairie Walk is sponsored by the Morning Kiwanis of Fabulous FDL.  The mission of the Gottfried Prairie and Arboretum is to reestablish, for future generations, the native prairie and representative plant communities for the purpose of education, wildlife habitat, and public enjoyment.  Since 1991, over 40 acres of native prairie and a formal arboretum with several forest communities have been planted on the grounds of the UW-Fond du Lac Campus.  The Gottfried Prairie and Arboretum provides monthly free environmental education classes for the public and has collaborated with Marian University and UW-Fond du Lac to establish a 2-credit course called Prairie Ecosystems and Restoration for students at both universities.  Prairie Fest, a free family event held the last Saturday in July, is also hosted by the Gottfried Prairie and Arboretum.  For more information, visit the Gottfried’s website athttp://gottfriedprairiearboretum.org/.
