A Fond du Lac County cheese plant is expanding. The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation says it has authorized up to $800,000 in tax credits to support a $7 million expansion project at Baker Cheese Factory Inc. of St. Cloud. The project is expected to create as many as 40 jobs. The amount of tax credits awarded depends on how many new jobs are created. The WEDC news release says Baker, a fourth-generation company that is nearly a century old, is investing in new equipment that will make the company more efficient and enable it to produce additional products. The project is expected to be completed by October 2016. Baker is located on Highway G in the town of Forest. The company was founded in 1916 and manufacturers 100 percent natural string cheese.
