12-17-14 uw fdl master plan calls for replacing gym with new building

A UW Fond du Lac master plan calls for a new building to replace the aging gymnasium.  The plan was unveiled at Tuesday night’s county board meeting.  UW Fond du Lac Dean John Short says the cornerstone of the plan is a new Health, Education and Science building that includes a new gymnasium.  “The new Health, Education Science building will replace the current physical education building which was the only building that wasn’t renovated in the past renovation,”  Short told WFDL news.  “It really needs a new roof, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, new locker rooms.”  Short says because of all of the building’s needs the architect’s recommendation was to tear down the current gymnasium and start with a new building.  In addition to the H.E.S. building Short says the plan calls for classroom upgrades thoughout the campus.  Short says the plan reflects an extensive look at higher education trends and how they impact the UW Fond du Lac.  Short says he hopes to come back to the county board in the next few months with some specific projects, phasing in the plan over the next decade.  Short says he hopes a new H.E.S. building will be in place three years down the road.  County executive Al Buechel say the cost to build a new health, education science building, including a new gym would probably be at least the $12.9 that was spent when the campus underwent a major renovation in 2000.
