A Fond du Lac warming shelter surprisingly has empty beds during this week’s cold snap. Solutions Center associate executive director Nicole Johnson says only slightly over half the beds were full through the first half of the week. “The last couple of nights we’ve had about ten people. We’ve actually seen a decrease,” Johnson told WFDL news. “I think that during the day possibly people are staying with friends or family and instead of walking back to the warming shelter possibly they’re just staying with those people.” Johnson says she doesn’t believe fewer beds filled means less homeless people in Fond du Lac. The warming shelter includes five beds for women and 16 beds for men.
