The Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer says she couldn’t believe it when she first walked into a Campbellsport area trailer filled with dozens of  cats and littered with animal waste.  Kim Mueller says the conditions had to have been building over a long period of  time…possibly years…not months or weeks.  “My first reaction was I couldn’t believe I was actually inside a home,”  Mueller told WFDL news.  “It looked like a complete junkyard.”   Mueller says she’s concerned that the woman apparently  had few if any visitors during the time she lived there.  So why wasn’t there earlier intervention if the woman’s health was in danger?  “I don’t have a great answer for that.  The best thing we can do about this situation is learn from it,”  Mueller said.  “If you have neighbors you are concerned about and you know they don’t have family that are checking on them regularly it would be important for you to maybe just go in say hello, peek your head in, see how they’re living.”   Mueller says the house is uninhabitable and unfit for human habitation and says her initial reaction is the trailer will have to be destroyed.  Forty cats and a dog were removed from the home and taken to the animal shelter.  The owner was transported to a Milwaukee area hospital.
