There is one bright spot for Wisconsin motorists currently battling winter weather: low gas prices. Today’s average price for regular unleaded gas in the state is below $2.00 per gallon for the first time since March 2009, according to AAA’s Fuel Gauge Report. State Triple A spokesman Nick Jarmuscz says the national average gas price has fallen for more than 110 consecutive days – an all-time record. Jarmuscz says gas prices have fallen faster than many expected this fall and winter due to sharply lower crude oil prices. AAA estimates that Americans saved about $14 billion on gasoline last year compared to 2013, based on monthly prices and consumption. This year promises to provide much bigger savings to consumers as long as crude oil remains relatively. It is possible that U.S. consumers could save $50-$75 billion on gasoline in 2015. Crude oil is the main cost associated with gasoline and represents about two-thirds of the price of a gallon of gas. It is estimated that every ten dollar per barrel change in the price of crude oil results in a 25- cent change in the price of a gallon of gasoline.
