The City of Fond du Lac announced last week that John Redmond has replaced John Kiefer as its Parks Superintendent. Mr. Kiefer retired on Friday, March 13th, after almost 25 years in the position. Mr. Redmond has served as a Park’s Foreman since 2012, and was a long-time manager for Stuart’s Landscaping before that. He holds a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Horticulture and Landscaping from UW—River Falls. He is licensed in pool operations and commercial pesticide application. In his new duties, Mr. Redmond will oversee 12 full-time employees and 15 seasonal employees. The Park’s Department is responsible for the maintenance and improvements in 26 City parks encompassing over 700 acres, as well as overseeing the marina, two City pools, and the urban forestry program. Mr. Redmond will supervise the day-to-day operations in these programs, as well as represent the parks system to the community and work to develop future plans for the system. “John brings wonderful interpersonal skills and a strong horticultural background to this position,” notes Public Works Director Jordan Skiff. “John’s years with us already have prepared him to continue the top-notch management that John Kiefer provided, but he also brings new ideas and a fresh perspective. Our many community partnerships are critical in sustaining a thriving park system in the years to come, and I have every confidence that John will excel in fostering those partnerships.”
