3-25-15 state trooper and bank robbery suspect killed in shootout

A  state patrol trooper is dead along with a bank robbery suspect  following a shootout in Fond du Lac.  The Wisconsin state Troopers Association posted on its Facebook page this morning the fallen trooper was Trevor Casper of Kiel.   The incident unfolded following a robbery at Hometown Bank on Peters Avenue around 4:30pm Tuesday.   Fond du Lac police chief Bill Lamb issued a brief statement late Tuesday night. “At approximately 5:30 pm a Wisconsin state patrol trooper was following a subject vehicle that matched the description of a bank robbery suspect.  In the 100 bock of N. Berger Parkway in the city of Fond du Lac there was contact made and an exchange of gunfire.  Both the trooper and suspect were killed in the exchange of gunfire,”  Lamb said.  Sources told WFDL news the trooper spotted the suspect’s vehicle on Highway 41 and pursued the vehicle back into the city of Fond du lac on West Johnson Street, turning south on Berger Parkway near the Pick N Save grocery store.  The suspect exited his vehicle and sources say it appears he shot the trooper who then returned  fire striking the suspect.   The suspect matched the description of a person who robbed the Hometown Bank in Fond du Lac about an hour before the shooting. Sources also say the suspect was involved in an earlier bank robbery in Marinette Counrty.
