An Eden man convicted of attacking and trying to disarm a sheriff’s deputy is going to prison. At a hearing Tuesday afternoon Fond du lac judge Peter Grimm sentenced 22 year old Colton Obrien to six years in prison and 11 years of extended supervision. “It was certainly a significant incident, anytime someone reaches for a police officer’s gun,” Fond du Lac County District attorney Eric Toney told WFDL news after the hearing. “Its a very serious incident and the court thought it was serious as well.” According to a criminal complaint Obrien punched the deputy and tried to grab his service revolver during a scuffle. Another man pointied the deputy’s Taser at the deputy. Fond du Lac County Sheriff’s Captain Rick Olig says the incident unfolded after the deputy responded to a noise complaint at an underage drinking party in the town of Auburn July 2nd: Before he was sentenced O’Brien apologized to the deputy. “I’m very sorry for what I did and I would like to apologize to you man to man,” Obrien said. “I accept responsibility for everything.”
