The Dodge County Sheriff’s Office has announced the selection of Sergeant Joseph Nicholas as its newest K9 Handler. Lieutenant Chad Enright will be stepping down as handler and K9 Paige will be reassigned to Sergeant Nicholas. Acclamation and Training will take place over the next month and they will begin working together on the road in mid-May. Lieutenant Chad Enright and Sheriff Dale Schmidt came to a mutual decision to reassign Paige. Sheriff Dale Schmidt says unfortunately due the type of administrative work assigned to him, he is no longer able to dedicate the appropriate time to the K9 program that he had prior to being promoted. Lieutenant Enright will still remain in charge of the K9 teams in an administrative role. “Sergeant Nicholas is an ideal choice as a K9 handler and shares many of the qualities that Lieutenant Enright has which made him successful when he was a patrol deputy,” Schmidt said . “Sergeant Nicholas is highly motivated and has always had a strong interest in drug enforcement. He has gone through extensive criminal interdiction training and is very productive in the area of traffic enforcement. These, among other things, are very important in selecting a successful K9 handler.” Schmidt says sergeant Nicholas will be an excellent addition to the K9 team and “we look forward to him and Paige becoming a valuable resource in our efforts to keep your families safe. Congratulations to Sergeant Nicholas on his newest assignment.”
