MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Gov. Scott Walker missed his first-term job-creation promise by about 121,000 jobs. Walker promised during the 2010 campaign that if elected, Wisconsin would add 250,000 private-sector jobs over his four years as governor. But job numbers Walker released for 2014 on Thursday show that only about 120,000 private sector jobs were created. Walker reiterated his job-creation campaign promise during his 2012 recall, but it was clear during his successful re-election bid last year that he would not fulfill the pledge. Walker’s administration also reported that the state’s unemployment rate dropped to 4.4 percent in April, down from 4.6 percent in March. Last year the state added 35,736 private-sector jobs, for a growth of 1.5 percent over that period. How that compares to other states won’t be known until June 17.
