The Fond du Lac city council president says there seems to be a lot of misinformation regarding Winnebago Lutheran Academy’s proposed development of a portion of McDermott Park. The council is considering a lease agreement that would allow WLA to construct athletic fields in the park. Council president LeeAnn Lorrigan says she has received a number of emails from residents who live near the park who are opposed to the idea. “We’ve received some emails from the neighborhood adjacent to the area and almost every email had misinformation,” Lorrigan told WFDL news. “Our city manager dug up information on McDermott Park and as far as the intent from Mr. McDermott who donated the property…if you read through his intentions was really to make it a very vibrant park. Not necessarily to have all this green space but to have softball fields and a lot of activity.” One resident who lives near the park, Shirley Clements wrote the proposal would be giving away longtime established public parkland to a private parochial high school, while robbing the public at large.
