An engineering report says the cost to save an historic bridge at Fond du Lac’s Lakeside Park would be significantly more than replacing the bridge. Community Development Director Diane Benson says the report found that saving the bridge would cost at least $140,000 more than replacing it. Community Development director Diane Benson says the report indicates the bridge is in need of repair or replacement. “Initial cost for replacement is somewhere between $100,000 and $120,000 whereas to rehabilitate it we’re looking at $240,000 to $245,000,” Benson told WFDL news. Benson says there may be alternatives that would allow preservation of portions of the historic structure elsewhere in the park. The Fond du Lac Historic Preservation Commission reviewed the report at their meeting last week.
