Fond du Lac County Public Health officials are taking a new approach to addressing the obesity problem. Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says the county’s Living Well Coalition launched a new program last summer called Fresh Five. Mueller says its an effort to change people’s lifestyles when it comes to food. “Its whole point is to increase access to healthy foods,” Mueller told WFDL news. Mueller says the program emphasizes that the healthy choice is the easy choice. “Several clinicians from Aurora and Agnesian HealthCare pulled together and they’re actually prescribing fruits and vegetables to their patients that have chronic disease due to obesity.” A study shows that 30 percent of Wisconsinites are obese. Mueller says the obesity rate in Fond du Lac County is slightly higher than the state average.
