The Fond du Lac city manager says next year’s budget will continue to expedite the reduction of outstanding city-issued debt. City manager Joe Moore gave the council its first look this week at what to expect when the budget is unveiled in a few months. Moore told the council that for the first time in several years the city will be asking for a water-sewer rate increase. “What we’re asking the city council for is the authorization to apply to the PSC for a rate study. The city doesn’t have the authority to raise rates,” Moore said. Moore says he does not anticipate any cuts in programs, services or staff. He says the budget contains a nearly $1 million increase in the tax levy…resulting in a slight increase for property taxpayers. “I would guess sitting here today, this is before the state budget is done, I”m anticipating something between 2.5 and three-percent (tax rate increase).”
