The head of Fond du lac Baseball Inc. says there’s no reason why kids shouldn’t be playing ball on the 4th Street baseball diamonds this summer. The gates to the diamonds have been locked after the school district renegotiated the lease with Baseball Inc. Fond du Lac School superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says it was Baseball Inc’s decision to close the diamonds. “We had received a lease offer from Baseball Inc. for using the 4th Street diamonds for the amount of $8000 which we declined because one of the themes the board was that we were not going to exchange resources,” Sebert said. Baseball Inc. president Tim Twohig says when the district refused to pay any amount to cover maintenance Baseball Inc. offered to open the diamonds at no charge to the district for this summer. “I then offered, I said I’ll pay for the maintenance on 4th Street for this year. Just come and play, it won’t cost you anything,” Twohig said. “…somehow they didn’t get back to me on that.” Dr. Twohig says he’s been in contact with the Rec Department director, and President of Youth Baseball. He says there has to be better communication. Sebert says he’s proud of the way the Rec Department has handled the scheduling this year of games with the 4th St. diamonds closed.
