Fond du Lac firefighters and the Green Bay Packers are launching a fundraising campaign to raise money with a goal of providing child ID kits to all children in the state. Director of the American Football Coaches Association National Child Identification program Kenny Hansmire says Fond du Lac is the first community in the country to participate in the Fill the Helmet campaign. “There’s over 800,000 children reported missing every year. 450,000 are runaways, 350,000 are prent abductions and 56,000 are stranger abductions,” Hansmire told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. Hansmire says the kit contains pertinent personal information that can be used by law enforcement in the case of a missing child. Green Bay Packer wide receiver Jordy Nelson was on hand Wednesday afternoon to kick off the program. “This is a great thing, its great to be a part of it,” Nelson told the crowd. “Hopefully we can raise the money that we need, get everyone in Wisconsin fingerprinted, get the ID cards out there.” President of the local firefighters union Todd Shippee says a giant football helmet constructed by WLA students will be at the fire station and other locations this summer and fall where people can drop off donations. Agnesian HealthCare is the corporate sponsor. Agnesian doctor Doug Fownes says Agnesian is thrilled to be part of the program. “As you know Agnesian is very involved in this community and we like to partner with anybody that we can anytime especially to help the kids in this community. Its all about happiness and health.”
