On 07-16-15 at 8:25am, the Dodge County Sheriff’s Office responded to a motor vehicle crash on Sth 33 at the intersection with Noble road in the Township of Hubbard, Dodge County, Wisconsin. Preliminary investigation shows that Robert Babiak (20 years old, from Horicon, Wisconsin) was operating a Chevrolet Malibu west on Sth 33 near Noble road. Carl Wintheiser (56 years old, from Oconomowoc, Wisconsin) was operating a semi with tank trailer (the tank trailer had a full load of ethanol) east on Sth 33. The Chevrolet traveled over the center roadway line, into oncoming eastbound traffic, and then struck the tank trailer. The tractor/trailer spun in a counter clockwise direction and overturned, causing a large fire. Wintheiser sustained non-life threatening injuries and was transported by Mayville EMS to Summit Hospital. Babiak sustained life threatening injuries and was flown from the scene by Flight for Life Helicopter to Summit Hospital, his condition is unknown. Sth 33 was closed for approximately 9 ½ hours while the crash was being investigated and the road repaired. Assisting at the scene was: Beaver Dam EMS, Mayville and Horicon EMS, Flight for Life helicopter, Dodge County Emergency Response Team, Hustisford and Juneau Fire Departments, Horicon and Iron Ridge Fire Departments, Horicon Police. Wisconsin DNR, Dodge County Hazmat Team. The crash remains under investigation by the Dodge County Crash Investigation Team.
