A group of Fond du Lac residents is continuing its fight against a proposed lease agreement between the City of Fond du Lac and Winnebago Lutheran Academy. The proposed 50 year lease would allow the private school to develop a portion of McDermott Park with ball diamonds and parking lot. Nancy Sondergard is with the group Friends of McDermott Park. Sondergard says she disagrees with the city’s assertion that the proposal fits in with McDermott’s donation of the park land to the city. Sondergard says she also wonders why some people are using the term “under utilized” to describe McDermott and other parks in the community. “This idea that it has to be utilized to some certain level of capacity, that’s a notion that I don’t quite undertstand,” Sondergard told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program. “What’s wrong with having something there that you can use as a place to go and enjoy some quiet solitude?”
