The Kids from Wisconsin will return to Fond du Lac for their 21st annual free appearance at Buttermilk Creek Park on Wednesday, Aug. 20 at 7:15 p.m. Their high-spirited performance features 20 singer/dancers and a 13-piece band, all chosen by audition from among the State’s finest young musicians. This year’s show features a “Hometown” theme: “No Place We’d Rather Be,” and includes the music of Frank Sinatra, Journey, Chicago, Carole King, and highlights from “Bullets Over Broadway.” The troupe includes 33 youth ages 15-20, representing 31 different Wisconsin hometowns. Cast members from the Fox Valley and East Central Wisconsin include vocalists Alaric Frinzi, Mayville; Alex Hatcher, Ripon; Nicole Goodreau, New London; and Nathan Fink, Mayville. Instrumentalists from our area include Traverse Such from Cascade on guitar, and Michael Winkler from Sheboygan Falls on trumpet. As the official musical ambassadors of goodwill for the State of Wisconsin, the Kids from Wisconsin troupe has been delighting audiences since 1969, when it was developed as a program of the Wisconsin State Fair. Now a separate non-profit corporation, the KIDS organization continues to provide daily performances during the 11-day run of the Fair and maintains headquarters at the State Fairgrounds. The Kids’ show this year features In addition to their Fair shows, the KIDS have helped organizations, clubs, hospitals and school groups raise thousands of dollars through benefit performances. They are popular entertainers at conventions and corporate functions as well. Nearly 70 performances are scheduled each summer, beginning in late June and running through Labor Day. A food concession, serving sandwiches, soda and desserts, will be available from 6:00 p.m. on. In the event of bad weather, the concert will be moved to the EXPO Center at the County Fairgrounds.
