The UW Fond du Lac Dean says he’s not sure merging the UW System’s 13 two year colleges with the state’s 16 technical college districts would be the best approach. A handful of Assembly Republicans are considering the proposal to reshape public higher education in Wisconsin with a goal of cutting duplication and saving tax money. UW Fond du Lac Dean John Short says his concern is that the UW System and Technical colleges have separate missions. At the same time Short says UW colleges also already work collaboratively with the technical colleges. The potential for such a merger has been broached over the years but has never been publically studied and Short says he doesn’t believe there’s a need for that.
