The Fond du Lac school superintendent says he’s hopeful that an expected increase in enrollment and property values will help reduce a tax rate in the proposed Fond du Lac School District budget. The Fond du Lac School board has approved the preliminary budget that includes a nearly five percent tax rate increase and staff reductions through attrition. Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says the district expects to see an increase in enrollment when the third Friday counts are released next month. “We’re optimistic, we’ve had lots of students enrolling across the district,” Sebert told WFDL news. Staff reductions would include not filling vacant teacher positions at Fondy Central, the STEM Academy, a technology coach, two media specialists and five instructional assistants. The preliminary budget includes a tax rate of just over $10 per thousand of property value…up from $9.57 last year. The owner of a $100,000 home would see an increase of about $45.
