MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republican leaders say the Wisconsin Legislature will vote next month on a bill prohibiting the use of secret John Doe investigations into political crimes. Assembly Speaker Robin Vos and Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald issued a joint statement Friday saying they have agreed to pass the bill in October. The proposal targets investigations like the ones that looked into Gov. Scott Walker’s 2012 recall campaign and its relationship with conservative groups and an earlier probe focusing on Walker’s aides and associates when he was Milwaukee County executive. Walker was not charged in either investigation, but Republicans have said they were politically motivated. The Wisconsin Supreme Court in July ended the latest probe, saying it was unconstitutional.
