9-29-15 fdl middle school students can earn high school credits

Fond du Lac middle school students who are taking certain advanced courses may soon get high school credit for that.  Superintendent Dr. Jim Sebert says Act 138 allows 7th and 8th graders to receive high school credit for certain courses.  “Its a state provision that allows kids if the courses are taught by high school certified people and if the courses are aligned so the expectations are similar.  At the end of last school year we worked to ensure those courses are aligned and starting this year we have the staffing at each middle school where we have people that are high school certified,”  Sebert said.  Sebert says it allows those students even more options when they are in high school.  “If the (school) board would allow us to do this we would update our board policy to reflect Act 138 and kids that are in those courses right now to earn high school credit.”
