MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Wisconsin may have a reputation as a major producer of milk and cheese. But the state also produces nearly half of the U.S. supply of green beans. And federal agriculture officials predict this fall’s crop will be a good one. The U.S. Department of Agriculture has forecast Wisconsin’s crop at more than 320,000 tons — up about 6 percent from last year and the best crop since 2009. In Wisconsin, beans are canned or frozen within hours of being picked in the field. Midwest Food Processors Association president Nick George, in Madison, tells the Journal Sentinel that Wisconsin is also near the top for sweet corn and peas.
