A Republican legislator from the Fox Valley is responding to accusations from Democratic legislative leaders that Republicans have lost their focus by catering to the far right wing of their party. Senate Democratic leader Jennifer Schilling said at a news conference this week that governor Walker and Republican lawmakers have an insatiable appetite for power. Republican state senator Roger Roth of Appleton told AM 1170 WFDL’s Between the Lines program that Schilling and other Democrats are just trying to grab headlines. “If you look at what our legislature has done over the course of this session we’ve been very reform based, we’ve been very mindful of taxpayer dollars,” Roth said. Roth is the author of a bill that would overhaul the state’s civil service system, another proposal that is being criticized by Democrats. “I, in no way, shape or form, want to scale back civil service protection. Republicans gave our state civil service protection in 1905, we just want to bring some common sense reforms to make it easier for our state to attract and retain good workers,” Roth said.
