The Wisconsin Brass Quintet will perform on the Searl Pickett Chamber Music Series on Friday, Oct. 24. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Church of Our Saviour, 9th and Main Streets in Fond du Lac. Single tickets are $15 and will be sold at the door; students are admitted free. Now in its 20th season, the Searl Pickett Chamber Music Series music series features some of the best chamber ensembles based in Wisconsin and the Midwest. The Series was founded in memory of Searl Pickett, long-time band director at St. Mary’s Springs High School. This third event in the series has been designated St. Mary’s Springs Band Alumni Recognition Night. Former and current Springs band members will be admitted FREE in honor of Pickett’s contributions to the music programs at SMSA. The program will include Canzona per sonare No. 2 by Gabrieli, In the Zone by Andrew Rindfleisch, and Rounds and Dances for Brass Quintet by Jan Bach. Founded in 1972, the Wisconsin Brass Quintet is a faculty Ensemble-in-Residence at the UW-Madison School of Music. Current members include John Aley and Matthew Onstad , trumpets; Daniel Grabois, horn; Mark Hetzler, trombone; and Tom Curry, tuba. The quintet’s musical expertise has been acknowledged by Verne Reynolds, Jan Bach, Karel Husa, John Harbison, Daron Hagen, James Stephenson and many other composers. In addition to performing with the WBQ, the players have also been members of the American Brass Quintet, Empire Brass Quintet and Meridian Arts Ensemble.
