10-23-15 fdl city officials have not heard from owner of former convent on raze or repair order

Fond du Lac city officials are preparing to move forward with the next step in dealing with a former convent building destroyed by arson fire last summer.   Community Development director Diane Benson says the city has not heard from the owner of the Holy Nativity Convent building since a  raze or repair order was issued last month.  “The property owner has not reached out to the city in regard to any proposed timeline in terms of doing any of the required repairs or for any intent to raze the structure,”  Benson told WFDL news. Benson says the state Historical Society has also signed off on the raze and repair order due to the condition of  the property.  Benson says if the owner does not respond within 90 days from when the order was first issued the city will start finalizing the costs of razing the building.  The June fire destroyed the vacant building on the corner of Division and Amory Streets.  Benson says the city doesn’t want to see the building sitting vacant for an extended period of time.
