The case of the former Fond du Lac Management Information Systems Director convicted in a fraudulent invoicing scheme is coming to an end. At a hearing in Fond du lac County Circuit Court Fond du Lac judge Peter Grimm ordered probation for Mark Beveridge will end November 11th after Beveridge agreed to pay the city of Fond du Lac the remaining nearly $36,450 owed in restitution. Beveridge spent more than a year in prison following his conviction a little more than three years ago on 17 counts including forgery, uttering, theft and misconduct in office. He was found not guilty on eight other counts. Beveridge’s attorney said at the time his client was the least involved of the four who were convicted of using taxpayer money to purchase mostly electronic items for their personal use. In an exclusive interview with WFDL news Beveridge says he’s glad its over. “I’ve learned a lot in the last few years. Don’t trust anybody is the biggest one,” Beveridge said. Beveridge maintained his innocence during the trial and repeated that following his probation-review hearing. “I’m sorry it happened. I thought I had a good staff, I was coming up on retirement, I was trying to work with some of my staff to be groomed to take my place that’s why they had authority to do some of the things they had to do,” Beveridge said. “I’m sorry they took advantage of me, took advantage of the city. I was just appalled when I saw the stuff that they were ordering on the city’s dime. I just couldn’t believe it,” Beveridge said. Beveridge says he never personally benefitted from what was going on. Prosecutors said during the trial at the very least Beveridge could have put a stop to the activity.
