Fond du Lac parks and public works officials are reviewing potential options for relocating the historic Lakeside Park Fountain Island bridge to a new location. Community Development director Diane Benson says there are a few options that are being explored including possibly relocating the structure to another location in the park. The issue was discussed at last week’s Historic Preservation Commission meeting. The historic bridge has deteriorated to a point where city officials have said it either needs to be replaced or repaired. Plans call for building a new bridge and moving the historic bow-string trusses to a new area. Benson says the plan is to have the new bridge built in time for next summer’s Walleye Weekend.
