10-27-15 senate scraps session, will discuss gab, campaign finance

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Republicans who control the state Senate have canceled a floor session Tuesday and plan to use the time instead to discuss bills that would overhaul the state’s elections board and campaign finance statutes.  Assembly Republicans passed both bills last week. But some Republican senators are calling for changes to both proposals, raising questions about whether the two houses can reach agreement.  The Senate was set to convene Tuesday morning to take up a number of lower-profile bills. Republicans abruptly canceled the session on Monday.  Myranda Tanck, a spokeswoman for Senate Majority Leader Scott Fitzgerald, said Senate Republicans will instead meet to talk about the elections board and campaign finance measures. She says they still plan to take up both bills before the end of the fall session next month.
