The Fond du Lac city council has given its blessing to a proposal transferring jurisdiction of Highway 45 through the city of Fond du lac from the state to the city. State Department of Transportation planner Matt Haladay says he thinks it’s a win for both the city and the state. Haladay says perhaps the biggest disadvantage would come decades down the road when a reconstruction of the highway is needed. The state will no longer provide financial assistance. However ,under the proposed agreement the state would pay the city $14 million over the next decade. Haladay says for city taxpayers the cost would be about the same as it is now. Public Works director Jordan Skiff says the big advantage for the city is that having jurisdiction gives the city more flexibility.
