12-1-15 deer hunt-preliminary harvest numbers

MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Preliminary information shared by the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources indicates hunters killed more deer during this year’s gun-deer season compared to last year.  The agency reported Sunday that hunters registered nearly 175,400 deer through the first seven days of the nine-day season. The seven-day total included almost 85,800 bucks and more than 89,600 antlerless deer.  191,550 deer were registered by hunters in last year’s gun-deer season.  This was the state’s deadliest gun-deer season in the past five years, while last year was the safest on record.  A final deer harvest report by the agency is expected early this week. The season began Nov. 21 and ended Sunday.
