Republican state senator Rick Gudex is not running for re-election and a Republican candidate has already stepped forward. Gudex told WFDL news he plans to return to the private sector to work in a managerial role with his former employer Brenner Tank. “I’m looking forward to the other lifestyle and spend more time with my daughter, she’s playing basketball, and spend more time with my wife and my son,” Gudex said. “This (decision) isn’t something that I made overnight, but I feel it will be good for myself and my family.” The chairman of the Fond du Lac County Republican party, Dan Feyen, has announced that he is a candidate for the 18th Senate District seat. Feyen has been chairman of the Fond du Lac County Republican party since 2007 and the 6th District party since 2010. Feyen says if he is elected he will bring conservative values to Madison to work on closing the skills gap by supporting the educational system at all levels. “You drive around in the industrial park in the Fond du lac and Oshkosh area, they’re all looking for jobs, they all say now hiring,” Feyen said. “We have a skills gap. The thing I hear the most is that we can’t find the skilled labor.” Feyen says another priority is to make sure Wisconsin’s infrastructure needs are met. Winnebago County Executive Mark Harris announced in September that he is running for the seat on the Democratic ticket.
