The Byron Historical Society’s annual commemorative calendar for 2016 will be unveiled at the organization’s open house and exhibit at the Byron Town Hall on Saturday, December 5, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The Pastimes and Pets in the Town of Byron calendar features 120 never-before-seen images along with stories of the pastimes and pets that have engaged the residents of Byron over the years.  More than 100 news articles from 1916 offer a flavor of Byron life 100 years ago.  In addition to photographs of Byron families and their beloved pets, the calendar features pastimes that range from genealogy, aviation, hunting, and fishing to woodworking, doll collections, gardening, sports, scrapbooking, writing, and visual arts. Artifacts from the town’s residents on exhibit at this year’s open house will include quilts and aprons; postcard collections; art and photography of Byron people, pets, and scenes; letters from a post-World War II German pen pal; woodworking projects; scale model tractors and farm implements; scrapbooks; beer and wine-making displays and many more pastimes in addition to photos and portraits of pets.  A holiday outdoor lighting ceremony will be held at 3:00 p.m. The Byron Town Hall is located at N3097 Hwy. 175, Byron. Refreshments will be served and calendars will be available for purchase at $10 each. The Byron Historical Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to the collection and preservation of Town of Byron history.
