MADISON, Wis. (AP) — Two Republican lawmakers are circulating a bill that would prohibit the state and local governments from banning live Christmas trees in the state Capitol rotunda and churches. Rep. Jesse Kremer and Sen. Stephen Nass said in a memo seeking co-sponsors that fire departments in smaller communities have been banning live Christmas trees in churches, even though national fire prevention guidelines permit them with adequate safeguards. Chuck Ruetten, fire marshal with the Jackson Fire Department, said he has told churches in his jurisdiction they can’t have live trees.
