2-28-16 fire destroys st. cloud home

Nobody was injured in a fire that destroyed a home in Fond du Lac County.  Firefighters were called to the scene at N8563 County Highway G near St. Cloud Friday night.  Nobody was home at the time of the fire.  The house was undergoing renovation work and the cause appears to be electrical in nature.

2-28-16 fatal fire-ripon

Ripon police are investigating a fatal fire over the weekend.  Police say one person died following a fire above Imagineers in downtown Ripon Saturday afternoon.  The fire was in an upstairs apartment at 217 1/2 Watson St.  Ripon police, fire and the state Fire Marshal’s Office are investigating the cause of the fire.

2-28-16 nfdl police investigating possible child enticement incident

North Fond du Lac Police are asking for the public’s help following a suspicious incident Friday afternoon.  Police say a  middle school student said a man in a white van approached him after school Friday in the high school parking lot and asked if he wanted a ride home.  The boy said the van left heading east on McKinley Street. Anyone with information about the incident is asked to call police.

2-28-16 waupun prison inmate attacks corrections officer

A Waupun correctional officer was transported to the hospital after he was attacked by an inmate.  The incident happened Friday in the northwest cell hall at the Waupun Correctional Institution.   Sources told WFDL news the inmate severely beat the officer in the face.

2-28-16 fdl man convicted of possession of child porn going to prison

A Fond du Lac man convicted of possession of child pornography is going to prison.    Fond du lac judge Peter Grimm has sentenced 38 year old Brian May to three years in prison followed by ten years of extended supervision.   May earlier pleaded no contest to three counts of possession of child porn.  Eleven other counts were dismissed and read into the record.

2-28-16 fdl man arrested in armed standoff bound over for trial

A Fond du Lac man arrested following an armed standoff over the weekend has been bound over for trial.    Probable cause was found at a preliminary hearing  Friday for Anthony Miotke on charges of  battery, disorderly conduct and bail jumping.  Police say Miotke got into an argument with a woman at a North Marr Street residence earlier this month, armed himself with a knife  and barricaded himself in the bathroom.  He eventually surrendered without further […]

2-28-16 fdl wayside tavern fire cause listed as “undetermined”

Fond du Lac fire investigators say a fire that destroyed a tavern this week appears to have started in a vacant upstairs apartment.  Division Chief of Fire prevention Troy Haase says the cause of the fire is undetermined.  "All we can really say now is the fire started upstairs,"  Haase told WFDL news.  "...DCI (Division of Criminal Investigation) was there.  They'll take care of the paperwork, the police department as well."   […]

One hundred area businesses, organizations, churches and schools will collect personal care, cleaning and hygiene items through March 13. The 2016 Help For The Homeless Drive provides five local agencies with a year’s worth of necessities for the clients each serves.  Necessities like toothpaste, deodorant, toilet paper, facial tissue, shampoo, facial soap, diapers, wipes , feminine hygiene products or laundry soap are not covered by  Food Stamps.    Fond du […]
