The Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer says test results came back negative for a Fond du lac area man who was tested for the Zika virus. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recently issued a travel warning for 14 countries and territories exposed to the virus, which has been linked to a torrent of birth defects in Brazil. Fond du Lac County Public Health Officer Kim Mueller says the local resident was tested after visiting one of the countries on that list. Mueller says new guidelines have been issued to doctors whose pregnant patients may have traveled to countries, especially Brazil. There is no vaccine or specific drug to treat the virus. Mueller says additionally, men traveling to these countries need to be cautious about sexual relations with someone who is pregnant or wanting to become pregnant.
