Madison—Thursday, multiple bills were signed into law authored by Sen. Gudex (R-Fond du Lac), including:
Act 318- This bill makes it clear that the use of drones around Wisconsin prison facilities is prohibited, and it establishes penalties in the event that an individual commits a crime while doing so. This concept was brought to our attention by the Correctional Officers in the district, and we are happy to address their safety concerns while respecting FAA rules and regulations.
Act 304- This legislation is an important effort to modernize the statutes governing Wisconsin’s credit unions. The bill removes burdensome regulations regarding the approval of the placement of ATM machines around the state and federalizes their ability to manage fixed assets and charitable putting them on a level playing field with their counterparts across the nation.
Act 317- This bill clarifies that the county, the school district, and the technical college must pay their share of a property tax refund to the municipality. Under current law that is not always the case and has caused a financial burden for communities like Waupun, Fond du Lac and Oshkosh. The City of Oshkosh was recently ordered by a court to refund $306,000 in property taxes, under the new ACT the other taxing jurisdictions would be required to pay their proportional share of the refund, which would have been $166,000.
“I am honored to have advocated for these bills in the Legislature because they help keep Wisconsin safe and fiscally sound. One of my priorities has been pushing an agenda of prudent reinvestment, and I believe that we have a great economic development vision in place that accomplishes that goal,” Gudex said.
