PPLETON, Wis. (AP) — A former Wisconsin Assembly majority leader is running for Congress. Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson is announcing his campaign for the 8th District in Appleton Thursday. Nelson was first elected to the state Assembly in 2004. He was named majority leader in 2008. He was elected county executive in 2011. Rep. Reid Ribble currently holds the congressional seat, but has decided not to run for a fourth term. Nelson in the first Democrat to formally announce. Republican candidates include state Sen. Frank Lasee, Mike Gallagher and Terry McNulty. Wendy Gribben is running as an independent.
