Fond du Lac residents packed a meeting room at UW Fond du lac Thursday night to learn more and express their concerns with proposed changes to the intersection on Highway 23 and County Trunk K. The temporary changes are designed as safety improvements with an expected traffic increase next fall due to the expanded St. Mary’s Springs Academy. Those changes include a slotted left turn lane on 23 and northbound K traffic will no longer be able to turn west on 23 to get into the city. But Fond du lac state representative Jeremy Thiesfeldt says unfortunately he doesn’t think there’s a better alternative at this point. “I really don’t. Something has to be done,” Thiesfeldt told WFDL news. “You’re going to be taking approximately 200 cars through that intersection and boosting it up to the area of 600.” Fond du Lac Public Works director, Jordan Skiff says people’s frustrations are valid but nobody has said doing nothing is a good option.
