1-31-17 fdl city council amends beekeeper ordinance

The Fond du Lac city council has approved an amendment to an ordinance that allows beekeeping in the city of Fond du lac.  The ordinance approved two years ago requires that all prospective beekeepers complete training at a technical college or university but no such course is available.  The amendment allows the training to be taken online or through other organizations.   City attorney Deb Hoffman says the East Central Beekepers Association has created a class for beginning beekeepers which will be held next month.  Hoffman says Fond du Lac is one of a handful of  a growing number of  Wisconsin communities that allow beekeeping.  The city could deny a bee keeping permit if adjacent neighbors who may be allergic to bee stings object.
